Choosing a Colour Palette for your Business

It can be daunting deciding on a colour palette for your small business and sticking to it. There are so many ideas out there and if you’ve spent any time on Pinterest at all, you’ll know all about option overload. I get it. I also get that you don’t have a huge budget for a brand designer so you’re it. It’s all down to you! Where to start right?

It’s all about keeping it simple. Find a few images you love, put them together, then start extracting the focal colours out of it. For example, take a look at my mini moodboard below. There aren’t a whole heap of images and they all kinda match don’t they.

So I want five colours to make up my colour palette. Here are the colours I’ve highlighted. I’ve done two cause I couldn’t decide on the blue or dusty pink for my last colour. I’ll let you make up your mind about which one you prefer.

And there you have it, your starting point. Or your ending point if you’re totally happy and obessed with the colours you choose. There is absolutely no reason why you can’t go with your first colour combo!

From these colours you can create all your headings, website graphics, social media icons and even templates. Colour branding creates consistency and with consistency you start to become more recognisable to your audience. Think of all the big brands you know, like Coke. Red and white all the way. Obviously you don’t have to be nearly as big as Coke to be recognised, it would be nice though right!

So, that’s my take on choosing a colour palette for your super cool new creative business. Shoot me a message [ hello@sageandsquare.com ] or comment below if you want the colour codes. Happy to help!
